The market for CELERY SEED OIL has swelled from levels of around US$38/kg to
around US$100/kg
Even at this price, in our opinion it is a very good buy.
The new crop in June is not expected to be normal and crop failure is reported.
Further end users are short of this material and they will all
converge on the crop. The majority of the crop goes for the production of Celery oleoresin.
The Celery seed crop thrives in Muck soils(soils with a good water
retention capacity
In India it is mainly grown in the Punjab area.
The crop is harvested around July.
It is expected that since Celery prices were low for the past many years
,there has been a gradual shift by the farmers
to more remunerative crops.
This has meant that 2008 will see a lower production
It is also expected that there will be some crop damage due to
insufficient water inputs in the growing areas.
Currently the availabilty of the Celery seed oil is down to about 4-5 mt
This is insufficient to meet the demand until the new crop.
This will also mean that there will be virtually no carry over from last year.
This will put pressure on new crop prices
In our opinion Celery seed oil is a good buy even at the current levels.
